Lumber can come out of the kiln with moisture content (MC) readings that miss the target, so kiln operators need to be ready to adjust schedules quickly.

Many mills also use in-kiln moisture measurement systems to monitor the moisture content of a few packs of lumber in every kiln charge, helping them better determine when charges of lumber are ready to come out of the kiln.
